Key Stage 5

Key Stage 5

The Vision for Key Stage 5

To raise the aspirations of our young adults by nurturing a passion for learning, enriching the student experience and securing outcomes which exceed their expectations.

What are International A Levels?

Students in our Key Stage 5 will study International A Levels from Pearson Edexcel. These courses are modular courses with the exams broken down by units and spread out over Year 12 and Year 13.

All subjects, with the exception of IT, will hold exams in the January and June sessions each year. IT is available only in the June session.

Subjects offered as International A Levels
– Biology
– Business
– Chemistry
– History
– Information Technology (IT)
– Mathematics
– Physics
– Psychology

How many subjects can I study?

Students will be expected to take a minimum of three IAS subjects in Year 12, and continuing with a minimum of two subjects in Year 13, to achieve an IAL qualification. Ideally, students should be challenged by the number of subjects they study, but not overwhelmed.

Key Stage 5 students will also have lessons in Arabic and Islamic (where applicable) and these will be subject to exams set by the Ministry of Education at the end of Year 13.

What subjects should I choose to study?

Students will receive a lot of guidance about what the best options are for them. Picking the correct A Levels is a combination of what finding out what a student is best at, what they enjoy and what they need to get into specific university courses or for your future career.

Getting it right is highly important. This decision will play a big factor in determining a student’s future, hence it is key that the school, parents and students work together to make the right choices.

We recommend having discussions between the student and parents regarding the choices and to speak with class teachers, Heads of Department, Key Stage Lead and University and Careers Guidance Counsellor where necessary.

Entry Requirements

Entry to the Key Stage 5 is a privilege, and as such there are certain academic requirements which must be met. There must also be a commitment to a certain style of conduct as expected of a student preparing to transition to further education.

To enter Key Stage 5, you must have been successful in five IGCSE subjects (including English, Maths and Science), achieving a Grade 3 or above.

To study a subject at A Level, you should have achieved at least a Grade 5 at IGCSE in the chosen subject.

Uniform

At Belvedere British School we pride ourselves on having high expectations in all areas. We expect that all parents and students will comply with the standards of dress and presentation required on all occasions.

For Key Stage 5 students, we do not expect them to wear Belvedere branded clothes. Students should be dressed formally in business attire and should wear their BBS Senior Jackets as much as possible.
